Youth exchanges are international meetings of groups of 16 to 60 young people during which the participants work on one subject and are the protagonists of the three phases of the exchange: the preparation, the meeting with the other groups itself and the follow-up. These projects allow groups of youths of 15 to 25, members of associations or not, to enjoy an intense individual and group experience. They offer an opportunity to share an intercultural and non formal education experience with youths from other countries which allows them to see similarities and differences between their cultures and fight prejudice.
A youth exchange project should be coherent and formative and a process of intercultural learning. The following are not considered youth exchanges: organisations’ meetings, holiday travels, language courses, school exchanges, show tours, contests, exchange activities that might be classified as tourism or lucrative activity, work camps and purely sport activities.
