Thursday 1 of July at 21.30h: "El Forat", documentary outdoor
Nexes presents Can Ricart, St Oleguer 10, Chema Falconnetti’s documentary "The Hole", the story of why a part of the city called "the hole of shame"
Between 2000 and 2003, PROCIVESA; property developer in charge of restructuring various areas of old Barcelona, was dispossessed low price several blocks of the district of La Ribera. After, they demolished them. The neighbours gave to the new space where previously their houses were, the Hole of Shame. They tried to denounce a situation which they considered demeaning for many reasons: the neglect that the administration had plunged a neighbourhood already punished, endless work, loss of rights for the neighbours, etc.
And the discomfort was manifested in a single action: Christmas 2001, a small group of neighbours planted a fir Christmas in no man’s land, immediately before the last inhabited houses awaiting demolition. With that, they claimed to get a green area where the City Council had planned to build a new parking and apartments for students. The fir quickly became the symbol of a conflict that has become the paradigmatic example of urban contradictions of the new Barcelona.
We wait for you all, on Thursday First July, in Can Ricart (Sant Oleguer, 10) to see the documentary outdoor.
